I see the impact the stigma around mental health has on people every day. Time for mental health to be understood and accepted as physical health is.
Being mentally unwell is such a struggle anyway, you feel like a failure, you can’t cope with life, you struggle to do the smallest of tasks and if the impairment was a broken leg or even because of concussion friends and family would not judge, might check in and offer support but with mental health we fear judgement as we are already judging ourselves.
No one notices the small facial and body language changes, the sadness behind the smile, the hardships of daily living or existing. It’s a horrible place inside your mind.
End the stigma – talk to friends, talk to family, be open, ask how they are doing.
